About Me and How I Work

My approach to therapy
At the heart of my approach is the importance of a space to think and feel freely, and a process that helps you grow and heal.
The way that I work is called Psychodynamic therapy
This approach focuses on helping you develop your capacity for choice in how you cope and relate, by exploring how unconscious patterns, thoughts and feelings influence your life. A typical session allows for the discussion of a range of themes, including links to early life experiences, family dynamics, patterns of attachment, somatic phenomena, dreams, interpersonal relationships, and deeply held emotions. Psychodynamic therapy belongs to the psychoanalytic tradition, meaning the focus is on insight and understanding rather than cognitive or behavioural intervention.
About this practice
I began this practice in 2022 with the aim of providing depth focused therapy to people in Hobart, and online for people in regional Australia. I am an active member of the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA), and a passionate advocate for the benefits of medium to long term psychotherapy for overall psychological and emotional health.

My background and experience
My career began almost 15 years ago in early childhood education, where I became interested in alternative methods of teaching and learning focused on creativity and nature connection. My experiences working in this area across diverse communities were formative in shaping my understanding of the kind of guidance that helps people grow and develop. Most importantly, I learned that supporting others’ self-expression requires deep listening for the uniqueness of their lived experience. This insight motivated me to train first as an Art Therapist with the Sydney College of Complimentary Medicine, then as a Counsellor and Psychotherapist with the Australian College of Applied Psychology. I worked for several years in the Northern Territory, where I continued to develop my skills and professional training, before moving to Tasmania to set up my private practice in Hobart.
